The final presentation

Group project continued

For our first pitch presentation a few team member were absence, with good reason, but this meant out communication was a little poor. Our first idea for the three images was the fall of the victim feature typical places a bird would be. So the first, a bird house, with the victim sat on the sofa, then for the second this would digress into the birdbath, possibly where the victims head is being held beneath the water. And final the bird table, the death. I feel these three images would answer the brief creative disruption well as it illustrates a shocking decline. Our other idea was focusing more on the positive side of recovery, highlighting the stages of escaping the abuse. The three images would start with the victim cocooned in their wings and slowly spreading their wins to fly away from the abuse.

After our initial group pitch, we made the decision to focus on the second idea as we wanted to make the bird house a therapeutic healing hub.

Feedback from the initial pitch

The feedback was good for this pitch and they said it was clear we’d all worked to our strengths. One of the points that was brought up was why didn’t we use a male character, which is something we we were going to include anyway. The other piece of feedback we received was that would we want to make the counselling hub a more private area to make it more approachable. After this pitch we delegated more jobs. I was responsible for doing a digital mock-up of the inside of the birdhouse as well as adding wings and joining the new characters Elliot had created.

The week before the final presentation when I received Elliot’s design’s I realise that he was drawing the positions of the people as if we were still pursuing the first idea. The bird house, bath and death. However, everyone else had decided to do the character spreading the wings. We didn’t realise this until soon before the final pitch. Therefore, in future group project I feel it is important to make sure everyone is fully filled in on what happens in meetings that they miss. Below are the characters.

Obviously because Elliot and myself were working on different ideas, I had designed my wings to be in the flying outstretched position. So, the images didn’t quite fit together but I don’t think it was too noticeable. I did question the positions, but I didn’t realise they were illustrating the other idea.

They worked well together as a visual I just had to curl the wing around differently and modified them a bit more.

When I designed the inside of the house I really got into the create process. Below is the image of my mock up.

A few of the key points I wanted to convey with these are as follows. The counselling booth was to be a tranquil relaxing area. To create a sort of Eden. Therefore, I incorporated lots of florals and ivy into the image. I made the seats swings to reflected this calm atmosphere. The logo which includes a birds footprint leads the victim to the seat which illustrates the first stage of recovery which is the cocooned of themselves. Them the other side of the room reflects there full recovery as it shows the wings spread and the victim thriving. There is an ivy bridge which is the metaphorical bridge the victim crosses in order to make a full recovery. This is also guided by the logo footprints further illustrating the path to recovery. The middle of the room is a bird cage style lampshade which is open and the bird are flying out reflective of the survivors of the abuse. All these birds scatter along the ivy bridge holding notes of encouragement and information about how to recover. The idea of the booth shows that the victim can have very difficult targets to escape but they are surrounded by other survivors to support them. The councillor is supposed to swap the relevant seats.

Another of the slight misunderstanding in the group was that I sent this image in and explained the above and jess who was doing the exterior of the hut designed a hut with three rooms because she saw I did the three stages. However, we just said this was an open plan space reflective of the three stages and three original illustrations.

The final pitch

Our group put a lot of thought into the feedback we received and address how discreet the booth would be, we decided we wanted the booth to be in a public area because we wanted the idea to be to defeat the stigma. Therefore, we place it in the open air atrium at Markeaton street. We also included all the images of the male to illustrate domestic health doesn’t discriminated across gender or sex. Our presentation went really well apart from the absence of one of our members.
